Employer cost structure
Statutory items the employer pays on top of gross salary in India, 2026 rates. At the published median salary, employer contributions come to 2.9% of base salary (the employer contributions line divided by base salary). On salary up to the highest published one, the rates of the items charged add up to 13% on the first INR 300,000 and 0% above INR 300,000. ESI is not charged at any published salary (the condition is in the table), so the rates above and the employer contributions line leave it out. These are cost items, not legal or tax advice.
| Contribution | Rate | Annual cap | Notes | At the published salaries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), employer share of PF[1][2][3] | 8.33% | INR 300,000 | Applied at every published salary | |
| Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), employer share of PF[1][2] | 3.67% | INR 300,000 | Applied at every published salary | |
| Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI), employer[4][5] | 0.5% | INR 300,000[1] | Applied at every published salary | |
| EPF administrative charges, employer[4][5] | 0.5% | INR 300,000[1] | Applied at every published salary | |
| Employees' State Insurance (ESI), employer[6][7] | 3.25% | none | Due only where monthly pay is at most INR 21,000. | Not applied at the published salaries: due only where monthly pay is at most INR 21,000 |
Statutory paid leave: 11 days (working days)[10], public holidays 3[11]. The 3 public holidays are the national holidays only; state laws add more festival holidays[11]. Leave days: the OSH Code gives one day of leave for every 20 days worked, and leave taken earns no leave. Formula v1.0 counts 1,940 hours (242.5 days of 8 hours) before leave and holidays; less 3 public holidays that leaves 239.5 days, so leave = 239.5 / 21 = 11.4, recorded as 11 working days[10]. Productive hours used for hourly figures: 1,828 a year (1,700 + 8 x 16, for 14 working days of statutory leave and public holidays against the 30 days that the 1,700-hour year allows for, as this site reads the formula: 11 days of leave (derived from the statute's rule), plus 3 public holidays).

Notes on cost items
- Statutory bonus (Code on Wages s.26, formerly Payment of Bonus Act): 8.33% to 20% of wages, payable only to employees whose wages are at or below the limit set by the appropriate government (INR 21,000 per month under the former Act). QA engineers above that limit are not covered, so no bonus cost is recorded.[12]
- EPF wage ceiling changed during 2026: INR 15,000 per month until 16 September 2026, INR 25,000 per month from 17 September 2026. The 2026 contribution caps above use the new ceiling.[1][2]
